What is your major?
My major is
Electrical Engineering.
What is something you wish everyone knew about your major?
I wish everyone knew that electrical engineering is really quite creative! I used to think engineering was all about being good at math, but creativity, innovation, and problem solving is really what's at the heart of it.
What was your most impactful class?
My most impactful class in my major was probably Circuits I — it sparked my interest (pun intended 😊) in the field and confirmed my decision to pursue an electrical engineering degree. Outside of my major, I loved taking Intro to Reconciliation and found it to be one of my most impactful classes during my time at SPU.
What are some of your career goals?
Ultimately, my career goal is always to keep learning and solve problems to help others. In the near term, I intend to complete a 2-year rotation program at Fluke Corporation where I will cycle through several different engineering roles. Later on, I hope to further my education with a master's degree, and would love to apply my engineering studies to international development and biomedical or renewable energy sectors.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Try new things (especially the things that scare you!) and invest in relationships. I think so much good growth happens when you push yourself outside of your comfort zone and do the things that you might be uncomfortable with or initially bad at. It forces you to focus on just having fun and learning! And ultimately, what is really going to shape your time at SPU is the people around you — so amidst the various demands that college brings, be intentional about spending time with others and foster meaningful friendships.
