Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP)

Development for each of Seattle's hospitals and universities is governed by a Major Institution Master Plan (MIMP) that lays out unique, institution-specific zoning rules. The intent of a MIMP is "to balance the needs of the Major Institutions to develop facilities for the provision of health care or educational services with the need to minimize the impact of Major Institution development on surrounding neighborhoods." (SMC 23.69.025)

MIMPs are long-range planning documents without expiration dates. Seattle Pacific University's Adopted MIMP was approved by the Seattle City Council in August 2000. Implementation and monitoring of an adopted MIMP is a collaborative process with involvement from both the community and city, in which the community is represented by an appointed Implementation Advisory Committee (IAC).

IAC meetings are open to the public and often held virtually. Access links to each meeting are posted in advance by the Department of Neighborhoods. For more information about the IAC or to provide a comment, please contact Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. For more information about SPU's MIMP, please contact the University at (206) 281-2828 or neighbor-relations@spu.edu
