Remembrance & Witness: A Seattle Pacific Diversity Timeline explores how Seattle Pacific has engaged and experienced diversity over time. The timeline is divided into nine thematic sections where entries about Seattle Pacific are interspersed with local, national, and global events that give further context for the time period. Language describing social categories throughout the timeline is taken directly from source material in order to be reflective of that historical moment.
The ensuing narrative brings cause both for celebration of our progress and growing commitment to the work of diversity, and for lament and repentance as we confess that our story is marked by failings to act redemptively in response to relational and systemic injustice. It is our hope that the project will be a helpful tool for faculty, staff, and students to engage in critical reflection and discussion around issues of diversity at SPU and to continue taking steps toward institutional change.
Remembrance & Witness is located in the Weter Memorial Hall student lounge as a permanent display, and is also available below in an online format.
