Seattle Pacific Reachout International (SPRINT) teams kicked off our campaign to accrue 125,000 hours of service by SPU students, faculty, staff, alums, and parents during the 2016-17 academic year.

Campus Communion and State of the University Address

This event marks the introduction of the 125th Anniversary to faculty, staff, and this year’s student leaders. Held in First Free Methodist Church, the campus community gathers to take the beginning of the year communion and hear President Dan Martin deliver the annual “State of the University” address, including the campus premiere of SPU’s 125th Anniversary video.

Alumni Grand Reunion »

All Falcons are invited to “come home” for the inaugural Grand Reunion. Alumni from any class, club, or connection are invited to reunite for one memorable weekend. Specific reunions include classes of Founders and 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016. Also included is a dinner reception featuring SPU presidents: current SPU President Dan Martin, and Emeriti Presidents David McKenna, David Le Shana, and Philip Eaton.

Alumna Art Exhibit: "Heritage"

A special art exhibit featuring the work of alumna and painter Anelecia Hannah Brooks ’05 will be on display in Nickerson Studios near campus. In this solo exhibit titled "Heritage," Anelecia combines the bittersweet imagery of young adulthood with imagery drawn from millennia of Christian history, suggesting that personal history and community history share similar dynamics of discovery. She is completing her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia.

SPU Story Pole Re-dedication

In 1971, Seattle Pacific’s senior class commissioned artist Abner Johnson of the Tlingit tribe to create a totem or “story” pole that reflected the history of Seattle Pacific University. As part of the Grand Reunion, a pole re-dedication ceremony will include Emerti Professor of Anthropology Ken Tollefson and a Tlingit representative.

Day of Common Learning 2016: Tracing Our Roots, Telling Our Stories »

The Day of Common Learning is a campus-wide event in which students, faculty, staff, and greater Seattle-area residents have the opportunity to engage in deep thought and conversation around a vital topic of interest. This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Alondra Nelson, dean of social science and professor of sociology and gender studies at Columbia University. Her topic: “Not Just Fun and Games: The Social and Political Significance of ‘Recreational’ Genetics.”

Falcon Athletics Hall of Fame Brunch

After a five-year hiatus, the Falcon Hall of Fame recognitions will resume as part of the 125th anniversary celebration. John Glancy '70, Virginia Husted '63, Soccer Coach Cliff McCrath, and the 1978 Men's National Championship Soccer team will again be recognized and inducted. Register now online. SPU athletic teams throughout the decades reunite! Everyone is invited, including athletes, managers, coaches, trainers, and fans from every SPU sport for this first-ever Falcon reunion. Join us for the next Falcon Athletics Hall of Fame at 9:30 a.m., and then at 6 p.m. visit with former teammates after the double-header basketball games.

Doing Justice: Recognizing SPU and SU’s Work with the Marginalized

More than 50 faculty, staff, and students from Seattle University and Seattle Pacific University who work in some capacity with marginalized populations will gather for a luncheon on the SU campus, hosted by its Center for Jesuit Education. As part of each institution’s 125th anniversaries, the group will meet to recognize and honor campus individuals whose ongoing research or volunteerism has centered on people who face poverty, income inequality, racial injustice, homelessness, food insecurity, barriers to education, and other circumstances. Following lunch, attendees will attend a larger event featuring social justice advocate and Harvard professor Matthew Demond as he discusses his book, Evicted.

The Founding of Seattle Pacific

SPU’s Friends of the Library hosts this special event featuring a panel discussion of Howard Snyder’s new book, Rooted in Mission: The Founding of Seattle Pacific University 1891–1916.  Dr. Snyder along with SPU faculty and staff will discuss the founding of Seattle Seminary within the context of Seattle as a growing urban center.

American Injustice: Mercy, Humanity, and Making a Difference

Bryan Stevenson, executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative and author of the New York Times bestseller Just Mercy, will be the guest speaker in chapel at 11:10 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. He will talk about his work challenging bias against the poor and people of color.

Walls Lecture: “Founding SPU: The History of Scripture at SPU”

Dr. Rob Wall, SPU’s Paul T. Walls Professor of Scripture and Wesleyan Studies, will give his annual Walls Lecture on Tuesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. The Paul T. Walls Lecture in Wesleyan Theology explores the place of spiritual perception in Wesley’s understanding of how one comes to embrace the Christian faith.

Piano Faculty Concert: Masterpieces from 1891

In celebration of Seattle Pacific University’s 125th anniversary, the SPU keyboard faculty will present an evening of musical masterpieces written during and surrounding the year 1891. Featured performers will include Myrna Capp, Dan Kramlich, Leslie Martin, Yuliya Minina, Robert Swan, Asta Vaicekonis, and Dainius Vaicekonis. The concert will be held in Nickerson Studios beginning at 7:30 p.m.
