ProTeach Support Seminar
The Professional Certificate for Teachers is the second-tier certificate required of all teachers in the state of Washington before their initial residency certification expires. As of September 2011, the Professional Certificate is no longer earned directly through a university program. Instead, the Washington ProTeach Portfolio Assessment is the mandatory process for earning the Professional Certificate. SPU's School of Education offers the ProTeach Support Seminar specifically to help you prepare for the portfolio assessment.
Who Should Take the ProTeach Seminar
If you are a teacher with a Residency Teacher Certificate who desires assistance and feedback as you develop your portfolio for the state ProTeach Portfolio Assessment, this 4-credit program is for you. SPU's ProTeach Support Seminar was designed solely for those who want help in the preparation process.
We encourage you to preview the ProTeach website to see the state-provided materials, and learn how and when you should register for the assessment. Then make an informed decision about choosing a support seminar.
As a student in the ProTeach Support Seminar, you will:
- Gain personalized, expert assistance from a team of advisors in preparing your portfolio.
- Experience maximized peer support through a cohort approach.
- Enjoy the flexibility of a program that is offered through partner school districts and private schools in the region, as well as online. This means that you can participate regardless of where you live within the state.
- Learn from a quality program that is consistent with the SPU School of Education's mission and meets NCATE standards.
The Seminar is individualized and performance-based. Delivered on-site and online, it typically spans one calendar year, beginning in the spring.
The ProTeach Support Seminar at SPU consists of classes for a cohort of peers who are all working on their ProTeach Portfolio. You will work alongside a trained facilitator knowledgeable about preparing portfolio entries and presenting evidence.
