Carol Nicholson, a student in SPU’s principal certification program, was a recent recipient of KCTS-TV’s “Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching.” The Golden Apple Awards honor successful teaching models and programs among Washington state educators. Since 1992, awards recipients are featured in a special that airs on public television stations across the state.
Carol, who also is a graduate of SPU’s teacher professional certification program, teaches at Elizabeth Blackwell Elementary School in the Lake Washington School District. Her teaching methods inspire her second graders to love learning. Dressed in character, she often transforms her classroom into scenes from the Grand Canyon, a jungle, or the Mayflower. Her creative approach is a hit in her classroom, as evidenced by one of her students who says, "Mrs. Nicholson rocks!" Congratulations, Carol!
