Seattle Pacific University is announcing a series of increased academic merit, need-based, and constituency scholarships as a way to strengthen the University’s commitment in pursing top academic students from all income levels.
The scholarships are provided to incoming students for Autumn 2016.
Need-Based
The first is a new need-based, SPU initiative for students in the Washington state College Bound program, which promises financial help to many low-income students who are taking steps to pursue college.
- The new “Falcon Bound” commitment guarantees full tuition to College Bound students who receive 1150 or higher on the SAT (critical reading and math).
Freshmen
Our three prestigious academic merit scholarships increased significantly:
- The Trustee Award, the top academic award, increased from $17,000 to $21,000.
- The President’s Scholar Award, the second highest academic award, increased from $15,000 to $18,000.
- Deans’ Scholarship increased from $12,000 to $15,000.
Transfers
New transfer students now benefit from three academic merit awards increasing as well.
- The Honors Award, the top transfer academic award, increased from $12,000 to $14,000.
- The Merit Award, the second highest transfer academic award, will increase from $10,000 to $12,000.
- The Achievement Award, the final merit award for transfers, will also increase from $8,000 to $10,000.
Constituents
- Students from Free Methodist churches, the founding denomination of the University, saw their award increase from $2,000 to $4,000.
- For students of alumni parents, SPU doubled the scholarship amount given to them from $1,500 to $3,000, as well as to students who come from families in church ministry.
- The Church Ministry award increased from $1,500 to $3,000.
Work-Study Students
Finally, SPU will increase its required match in the Federal Work Study (FWS) program to almost 70 percent. Currently, SPU contributes the required match of 25 percent. This investment will provide the opportunity for greater earnings for FWS students and allow more of SPU’s current on-campus positions to be designated as work study.
- Additionally, the per-student work-study award increased as much as $900 to $4,500 annually, a 25 percent increase.
