EDCN 5290 Coaching: Getting Organized for Success (5 credits)

Helps participants become organized in preparation for their next coaching season or job. Provides new methods for distinguishing specific plans, templates and assessments for their athletes. Offers the opportunity for experienced coaches to refine and improve existing handouts, booklets, templates and athlete assessments, as well as experiment with new organizational procedures.

EDCN 5384 Fundraising: Developing Your Own Clinic or Camp (5 credits)

Helps participants create a clinic and a camp for their own athletes. Integrates the fundamentals, techniques and philosophies into clinic and camp programs. Investigates successful existing clinics and camps. Examines how to create a budget and marketing plan.

EDPE 5066 Improving Football Coaching: Offensive Coordinator Strategies (5 credits)

Provides football offensive coordinators an opportunity to examine their own methods for the following: the development of individual game plans, their team's ability to attack the inside, outside and through the air, their offensive communication system, play calling strategies, and the viewing of game tape regarding their own team as well as their opponent. Enables participants to create plans for success in specific game situations. Also gives the opportunity to examine teaching techniques for specific positions.

This course is designed to provide the football coach who is responsible for the organization and implementation of his high school or junior high school's special teams, the opportunity to investigate and make conclusions about how to implement, teach, and evaluate each special team. Participants in this course will establish clear expectations from the head coach regarding their job off the field, during practice, and in games. Participation in this class will provide the special teams coach with new knowledge, strategies, inspiration, and a positive affirmation for the coaching position.

EDPE 5069 Improving Football Coaching: Defensive Coordinator Strategies (5 credits)

Provides football defensive coordinators (DCs), or coaches wishing to become DC's, an opportunity to examine their own methods for developing game plans for opponents, and solve specific defensive situations during game time. Participants will also create specific drills for defensive positions, and buy and view two videos/DVD's.

EDPE 5071 Developing Fitness Programs (5 credits)

The ultimate goal in athletic training is to achieve peak performance at the right time during the season. This course is designed to introduce and familiarize the participant with the periodization. The model of periodization involves using various cycles in planning training programs that gradually progress towards peak performance. Participants will be introduced to the principles and strategies of utilizing the model of periodization. These principles will be applied to develop training programs for various cycles during an athlete's season or annual plan.

This course is a kit-based health and fitness curriculum with four interactive units: anatomy, fitness, nutrition, and stress/goal-setting designed to empower children to make choices that promote fitness, health and wellness and lessen the burden of cardiovascular disease, the number one killer in America. Kids Take Heart aligns with Washington State's Essential Academic Learning Requirements for Health and Fitness and meets the needs of diverse student populations.

Proper training and a well designed program will enhance a student's level of fitness and performance. This course is designed to introduce proper strength training methodology and strategies in developing successful training programs, individual training sessions and exercise selection. Participants will review, analyze, evaluate and create strength training programs. They will also learn to select specific exercises for individual and sport specific development.

Flexibility is a key component of fitness and athletic performance. Good flexibility and range of motion will enhance speed, strength, and power. Also, as a person ages flexibility exercises become even more important. The course will cover the benefits of flexibility training, introduce a wide array of flexibility exercises, proper technique, exercise selection for various activities, events and sports. Student/athletes will benefit and perform better in physical education class and in athletics given the opportunity to improve their flexibility.

EDPE 5085 Teaching High Level Skills in Physical Education (3 credits)

Participants will learn new and innovative activities appropriate for grades K-12. Emphasis is on maximum participation and hands on experience. Activities include those used for: warm-up and cool down; cooperative; large group games; sport lead-up skills; rhythmic and dance; and inexpensive homemade PE equipment.

PES 5065 Scientific Application in Physical Activity (4 credits)

Prerequisite: BIO 2129 and 2130 or equivalent. Explores the science of human motion as it relates to growth, development, health, and fitness of children and youth. Examines functional anatomy and physics of movement and provides explanation of physiological responses and adaptations to physical activity. Insight and skill are gained for the assessment of physical fitness as well as for the development and direction of activity programs designed to promote the enhancement of total well-being in youth.
