| The primary objective of this class is to enrich educators as the conveyers of civilization with an interdisciplinary knowledge of the multicultural roots of one of the great cities of the West, and to develop ways to convey to their students a sense of being citizens of a global culture shaped by history. To this end, the course discusses the city of Rome as a cultural crossroads where the philosophical heritage of Greece met the theological heritage of Jerusalem in a way that produced great works of literature, architecture and art. The course also provides opportunities to reflect on those issues of civic commitment, religion, and freedom that must always arise in a study of the city of Rome. Equivalent: EDCT 5323. |
