Why I Teach at SPU

Candace Vance, Associate Professor of Theatre

"I teach because I care about young artists, because I am passionate about the professional theatre world, and because acting cannot be learned from books. It is only by being fully present, by listening with all the senses to the particulars of each student actor, by joining in that incarnational activity of becoming another character, that genuine artistic growth can occur. I welcome the opportunity to share the pursuit of that growth by creating a safe studio environment with emphases on technique, intellectual/creative development, reflection, and artistic discipline.
