String Ensemble

Cello

String Ensemble, which includes String Quartet and other such ensembles, is a course that develops an advanced young musician's sense of collaboration to achieve a common voice. Each instrument in this setting is equally vital, and participation requires strict commitment for the year.

The String Ensemble repertoire varies from beloved classics to challenging contemporary works. The groups are featured in concerts and other University events, both on and off campus. In addition to the weekly coaching, the ensemble must rehearse regularly.

Membership

Membership in String Ensemble is open to Music majors, Music minors, and nonmajors, and is by audition or recommendation.

Why I Teach at SPU

Ilkka Talvi, Instructor of Violin

"I have had an urge to share my knowledge with others since childhood; call it a blessing or passion, I know of no other way. To me, success in teaching means offering my students at SPU the best possible education, not limited to the violin, but spiced up with interesting information on a variety of related topics. I believe in this multifaceted approach to help guide and inspire."
