Former Adjunct Professor of Music Neil Lieurance died March 9, 2014. Lieurance taught at SPU from 2005 to 2012, directing the Women’s Choir, teaching sight-singing and ear-training, and supervising music education student-teachers. He taught and conducted choral groups in the Shoreline School District for more than 40 years. Lieurance received a number of distinguished awards, including the Washington Music Educators Association Hall of Fame in 1998 and the 2007 American Choral Directors Association Leadership and Service Award. He is remembered for his gentle demeanor, commitment to student learning and choral experience, and wonderful performances at SPU’s annual Sacred Sounds of Christmas concerts.
