Stewart Represents SPU in Kenya

Ross Stewart

During the summer, SPU professors often enjoy the opportunity to serve overseas. This past summer, Professor of Accounting Ross Stewart participated in the U.S. Speaker and Specialist Program in Kenya, supporting the U.S. State Department's public diplomacy efforts by conducting entrepreneurship workshops. At several locations around the East African nation, he conducted a series of hands-on, collaborative workshops for dozens of young, would-be business owners. In addition to providing participants with the skills to develop a business idea into a business plan, he also addressed issues of building business infrastructure, creating customer value, and maintaining financial viability.

Kenyan community and government leaders expressed enthusiasm and appreciation for the workshops, as well as excitement about potential funding opportunities for emerging business plans. In addition to conducting the workshops, Stewart held discussions with county officials, community organizers, and media representatives. Read the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi's report about Dr. Stewart's visit.
