  • Educators for the 21st Century Professional Development Grant Program

    Dr. Daniel Bishop of SPU’s School of Education applied and received a grant from Washington Student Achievement Council’s Educators for the 21st Century competitive program. This program provides partnership grants for professional development projects serving K-12 educators. The School of Education has used this particular award to fund a cadre of individuals earning their Elementary Math Specialist endorsement. In the course of their program, candidates gather math teachers within their individual school communities and focus on utilizing resources from the Smarter Balanced Digital Library to improve instructional practice and learning outcomes. Courses for this closed cadre are offered through the Center for Professional Education.

  • Destiny One Launch

    We’re excited to announce that CPE has invested in Destiny One as its new online registration and marketing platform. It will be replacing the existing registration system and the printed SPIRAL catalog, as we shift our marketing efforts to utilize online and social media platforms. Our go-live date for our new site is set for February 6, and we invite you to visit the new website then. We’re thrilled to introduce the user-friendly layout, which will contain comprehensive information for all programs and events offered through CPE. Students will be able to easily navigate for course offerings or more detailed program information on this web- and mobile-friendly platform.

  • High Need Areas in Endorsements

    The Educator Retooling Conditional Scholarship Program, offered by the Professional Educator Standards Board and the Washington Student Achievement Council, provides financial support to Washington State certified teachers who seek to expand their knowledge and skills by adding endorsements in subject or geographic shortage areas. Recipients are awarded up to $3,000 per endorsement add-on. The scholarship is given directly to the qualifying teacher and is to be used towards educational expenses for the retooling endorsement, such as tuition for coursework, the endorsement test (WEST-E/NES), the pedagogy assessment, and other educational expenses (e.g., books, supplies, transportation).

  • A Message from the Director

    Dr. Pete Renn is entering his 25th year as a professional educator; he has served as a classroom teacher and administrator in K-12 schools, taught undergraduate and graduate education courses at Concordia University Chicago, and most recently served as Concordia’s Director of the Center for Global Outreach, where he helped to develop institutional partnerships around the world. He earned an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from SPU in 2012. Here, he speaks to what excites him about CPE and its service to the greater educational community.

  • Professional Certification State Review

    The Professional Certification process is under State Review, sponsored by the Professional Educator Standards’ Board (PESB) and Association of Washington School Principals (AWSP). To receive program and certification updates, join our inquiry list by emailing our ProCert team. SPU’s 2017-2018 program availability will be determined and posted on February 1, 2017.
