  • Education Job Fair

    The School of Education will host its annual Job Fair for all SPU students seeking a Washington state certificate, including teacher, school counselor, principal, program administrator, and superintendent. The event will take place on Thursday, April 24 from 4:30p.m.-6:30p.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. The Job Fair is only open to SPU students. No RSVP required.

  • SPU Grads Earn Allen Distinguished Educators Award

    SPU School of Education graduates Regan Drew and Mike Wierusz were selected as two of seven educators from California, Oregon and Washington to receive the prestigous Allen Distinguished Educators (ADE) award. The Paul G. Allen Family Foundation recently announced the launch of  designed this new program to spread innovation from a single classroom to teachers and students around the country. Both Regan and Mike will receive $25,000 in funding and a year-long fellowship program to grow and share their work in entrepreneurship and engineering education.

  • School of Education Scholarship Application Now Open

    Undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Education are encouraged to apply for an annual scholarship offered through the School of Education. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and commitment to the School of Education's mission.

    Graduate students may apply for the Kingswood Scholarship for Christian educators or the Ethnic Diversity Scholarship.

    All students apply for scholarships via one application, which opens in mid-February each year.

    If you are planning to graduate Winter, Spring, or Summer 2014, now is the time to apply to graduate. Please apply by March 15. Students graduating Winter, Spring, or Summer 2014 must meet this deadline as one of the qualifications to be eligible to participate in Commencement.     The School of Education will host its annual Alumni Award Social as part of Seattle Pacific University's 2015 Homecoming events on Friday, February 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. The event provides an opportunity for alumni and a guest to connect with School of Education faculty and Dr. Rick Eigenbrood, dean of the School of Education, while enjoying complimentary hors d' oeuvres.   • Doctoral Student Receives Golden Apple Award

    SPU doctoral student Zakariya Palsha has been recognized for his outstanding educational leadership with a 2013 Golden Apple Award, one of the most prestigious educational honors in Washington state. Palsha, principal at Campbell Hill Elementary in Renton School District, is enrolled in Seattle Pacific's Doctor of Education (EdD) program while also earning his superintendent certificate here.

    Under Palsha's leadership, Campbell Hill Elementary has made extra efforts to reach out to their ethnically diverse community. (Students of color make up 95 percent of the student body.) He has also initiated wide-reaching after-school programs and extensive staff training. "He's the number one principal I've worked under," says Campbell Hill instructional facilitator Helen Babbin. "He really is a global educator."

    This year's eight Golden Apple Award winners will be featured in a television special to be aired across the state.
