SPU Applicants

Welcome to SPU and the School of Health Sciences! In your first quarter, you will be enrolled in the University Common Curriculum courses. Through shared experiences in a committed community of learners, these courses, along with weekly chapel, lectures, concerts, and community events, will form the foundation of your SPU experience.

We believe the formation of Christian character, as evidenced by the heart, mind, and action, is a cornerstone of your education and leads to qualities seen in exceptional nurses. You will complete the prerequisites for nursing during your first two years, along with core University requirements. Apply during your sophomore year for admission in Autumn Quarter of your junior year into the upper division bachelor of science Undergraduate Prelicensure Nursing program.

SPU students are currently enrolled at SPU or have been enrolled at SPU within the past four quarters.

You must have a minimum of 2.85 cumulative GPA in the prerequisite courses, with no one course less than 2.0, and no more than two repeated prerequisites due to a grade of less than 2.0.  Attainment of the minimum GPA does not guarantee admission to a major, however, as the total number of admissions is limited by capacity.

How to apply

As an SPU student, you’ll typically apply to the nursing major during your sophomore year and begin the nursing program in Autumn Quarter of your junior year. However, students may apply at a later point, even after completing a degree in another major.

SPU students must submit the following by the January deadline:

  • An application* (PDF) to the Nursing major including:
    • A professional recommendation
    • Prerequisite calculator/details
    • Background disclosure form
    • Work and volunteer hours

You will be notified by email in early February if you are selected for an interview.

You will be notified of your admission or waitlist placement at the end of winter quarter.

Acceptance is contingent on successful completion of the prerequisite courses by the end of spring quarter.  All applicants must have achieved the minimum or higher prerequisite GPA at the time the application is submitted and when all prerequisite courses are complete.

*Adobe reader is required in order for the application to calculate correctly.
