Theological Studies Minor
The Theological Studies minor is for students who want to approach their major discipline from a perspective richly informed by the heritage of Christian thought and practice. The Theological Studies minor is intended to nurture those skills and capacities required of a thoughtful and articulate faith regardless of one’s life call.
Benefits
Because this minor is a complement to your major, you are given as much leeway as possible in course selection, within the general parameters established by the School of Theology for balanced and responsible theological inquiry.
The Theological Studies minor, you will discover, is designed to cultivate an appreciation for how Scripture, tradition, reason, and experience rightly inform theological reflection.
Courses and Degree Requirements
A few of the courses in the Theological Studies minor include Early and Medieval Christianity, Exploring Christian Doctrine, and Biblical Ethics. Review all the Theological Studies minor requirements.
To receive a Theological Studies minor, you will be required to take a minimum of 30 credits, including at least 30 upper-division credits. Download the theology major/minor application form (PDF).
Theology-Related Internships

- SPU’s internship and job-posting system, JobLink, is updated weekly with ministry, church, and service positions. Students and employers regularly make use of this site.
- SPU’s Center for Career and Calling provides employment and internship resources for students and employers. Contact CCC at 206-281-2485 or spucareercenter@spu.edu.
- Open ministry, church, and service internships and jobs are posted on the Internships and Jobs Bulletin Board on the first floor of Alexander Hall. Email sotadmin@spu.edu to post a position.
Why I Teach at SPU
Douglas Koskela, Associate Professor of Theology
“Theology involves the academic exploration of the beliefs and practices of Christianity. At a deeper level, though, theology is about what the living God is doing in the world and in our lives. I encourage students to develop their 'spiritual senses' by learning the Christian story from Scripture, the creeds, church practices, and history.”
