Bicycle Theft

  • Secure your bicycle with a Heavy duty U-lock or chain. Lock the front wheel and frame to a bike rack to prevent wheel theft.

  • Register your bike at BikeIndex.org, a popular national database for registering and reporting stolen bikes.

  • Registering with Bike Index ensures that SPU, law enforcement, bike shops, individuals, and everyone in between has the information they need to help reunite you with your bike.

  • You can keep your bike locked to an SPU bike rack for up to 72 hours. If your bike is left at an SPU bike rack for longer than 72 hours it is subject to impound by OSS. 30 days after impound the bike will be disposed of. Secure bike storage areas are excluded, i.e. Dravus Lot bike cage or Emerson garage bike storage.
