Most campus students and staff are encouraged to use SPU Webmail or Outlook 2007 to read their email. These two applications provide the most features and access to all of the Exchange mailbox resources including mail, calendars, contacts, public folders, tasks, notes, and mailbox settings/preferences. However, there are other email clients that can be used to access your SPU email, such as Apple Mail, Outlook Express, or Mozilla Thunderbird that require different email protocols and settings. You will also need to know your SPU Username and password. If you are asked for a domain in combination with your SPU Username and password, you should use: "accounts" (without the quotes).

Server/Connection Type: POP/POP3
SPU does not provide POP/POP3 protocol support. The POP protocol removes the email messages from the server and stores them on the client computer. When things go wrong, there is no recovery or backup provided. This protocol is not supported, or recommended.

Server/Connection Type: IMAP (for use with Apple Mail, Outlook Express, Mozilla Thunderbird and a few other email clients). You should be aware that some Exchange features will not be available through an IMAP connection.

Server/Connection Type: Outlook Anywhere (for use connecting Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 to the SPU Exchange Server over the RPC-over-HTTP protocol). All of these settings should be automatically configured when you run the email configuration wizard. See Email Client Configuration for more information.
