What is DreamSpark?

DreamSpark is a program set up by Microsoft to provide students with software design and development tools at no charge.  The program is available for university/college students as well as many high school students.

To register, students must visit the DreamSpark website and verify their identity.  Students in addition to an @spu.edu account, must have a Windows Live ID.

How To:

Access DreamSpark
Students wishing to download programs such as Visual Studio 2008 as well as variety of other Microsoft Products made available through DreamSpark, must go http://www.dreamspark.com.

Instructions for SPU Students on how to verify their account may be found here: https://www.dreamspark.com/FAQ/UniversityStudentFaq.aspx

Once you verify your account, you will be able to download the software as an ISO image file.  Unlike an executable file, the ISO image must be placed onto a disc or virtual drive before installation can occur.

Common Problems:

These are large files, we strongly encourage you to use a wired connection to complete the download.  If you use wireless the download may not complete properly.

Verification

An email is sent to your SPU account to verify your account.  If this does not arrive in your inbox, check your junk mail folder.  You will need to activate your account prior to downloading the software.

Pop Up Blocker

You may need to disable your pop up blocker in order to download software.

Burning an ISO Image

If you're running Vista or Windows XP, you may need additional software to burn an ISO image.  Information on what an ISO image is as well as what applications are available may be found here

Windows 7 has built in software in the operating system that will allow users to burn ISO images without an additional application.
