If you previously used a WebDAV connection to edit pages in Dreamweaver, you will need to delete or modify your existing connection. This can be done through the Site Menu -> Manage Sites and click the edit button with your existing connection highlighted.
1. Open Dreamweaver by clicking on Start > Programs > Adobe > Dreamweaver .
2. Enter in the name of the project you will be working on. In the URL textbox, enter "http://www.spu.edu/depts/" your department goes here.
3. The next window will ask you about Server Technology. Click on No > Next.
4. Select Edit local copies on my machine, then upload to server when ready (recommended). In the text box near the bottom of the page, you'll want to tell Dreamweaver where you will be storing local copies of the pages that are on the web site. We recommend creating a new folder in your My Documents folder and giving it a name that you'll know it's your web folder. When finished, click Next.
5. Select FTP from the drop-down menu.
What is the hostname of your FTP server?web-prod.spu.edu
What folder on the server do you want to store your files in? /depts/[Your Dept Folder]
What is the FTP login? your accounts username (Same as email username.)
What is your FTP password? your accounts password (Same as email password.)
Check the box Use Secure FTP
When finished, click Next.
6. Click on Yes, enable check in and check out. Click on Dreamweaver should check it out. Fill out the text boxes with your full name (first and last) and then your SPU email address. When finished, click Next.
7. The next screen will show you a summary screen. Remember that you should do a check to make sure all of the information is correct. The screen below is just an example of what it will look like. Click Done when you are done.
8. The next screen will show you how to begin the process of updating your pages. Under Open a Recent Item, it will list any of the pages you have opened recently and will provide shortcuts to those documents for quick retrieval. On the right side of the screen, you'll see a folder named Files that has your hierarchy listed for your department folder on the SPU web server.
9. In the white section of the window on the right side (Files), you'll see the words, "To see your remote files, click the [connect] button on the toolbar. In the picture below, we circled the button with a red circle. You'll do this each time you need to connect to the server (each time you open Dreamweaver). Go ahead and click on it.
10. After clicking on the Connect button, you'll see that the white section fills in with the files in your folder. The connect button is also highlighted, letting you know you're connected to the server and you can begin editing your web pages!
FYI: Find the file you need to update. If you need to, click on the plus-signs next to folders to find files within folders. When you have found your file, double click on it. This will open your file as well as check it out. The check out process just lets us know that you have the file opened and that you're making changes to it. Before the file opens, Dreamweaver will ask you if you want to include dependent files or not. Click No > select Don't show this message again.

1. Download the file you want to edit to you machine by right-clicking the file then selecting "Get" on the file you want to edit. |

2. Select Local View from the dropdown in the Files Section. |

3. Once you have switched to Local View you can double click on the file you want to edit, and you will receive a dialog box asking what you would like to do. Select CheckOut to edit the file. |

4. Once you have finished editing the file select "Put" then "Checkin" by right clicking on the file. |
