Recruiting Policy

Seattle Pacific University welcomes employers and offers them the opportunity to recruit on campus, post jobs or internships (see specific internship policies), offer information sessions, conduct on campus interviews, and participate in career and internship fairs except for the following:

Noncompliance with State and Federal Laws and SPU Educational Goals:
While encouraging diversity in the recruitment program, SPU reserves the right to refuse usage of the Center for Career and Calling facilities and services to any employer or organization not in compliance with state and federal law pertaining to Equal Employment Opportunity. In addition, as a Christian institution, SPU reserves the right to refuse usage of CCC facilities and services to any employer or organization whose policies or goals are determined to be in conflict with the mission of the University.

Commission Sales:
SPU does not encourage recruiters who are seeking to fill commission-only sales positions. Commission sales positions may be advertised to students through SPU JobLink, our online job and internship posting service, or through company arranged group information sessions on campus, provided that the compensation arrangement is clearly noted on job notices and is thoroughly explained in information sessions or interviews with students.

Insurance, financial service, and other companies advertising commission sales positions may offer one group information session and interview date per company per year. Companies also have the option of reserving a Display Table in the Student Union Building (one time per quarter) and providing us with company information for student use.

Insurance or financial service companies seeking to fill salaried administrative/professional positions may recruit on-campus every quarter if desired.

Third Party or Employment Agencies:
Representatives may recruit or post opportunities through the Center for Career and Calling under the following conditions:

  • No fee is charged to the student or applicant
  • The name of the hiring company is released to Center for Career and Calling staff (only) and is approved by the staff
  • The hiring company is an Equal Opportunity Employer

Fees to Students:
SPU will not grant campus interview privileges to pyramid-type organizations or other organizations which charge a fee (e.g. certification or licensing fee, equipment purchase, initial investment in the company, etc.) to students or applicants.

Other Policies:
SPU will not post positions that operate from a home office or include personal errands as part of the job description.

The final approval for employers to utilize CCC facilities and services rests with the Director of the Center for Career and Calling and the Dean of Students. If deemed necessary, the Dean of Students may refer difficult cases to the President's Cabinet for a final decision.

The permission to use University facilities does not imply University approval or endorsement of the policies practices or products of the recruiting organization.
