Disability Verification Letter

Faculty often have many questions and concerns about working with student with disabilities. Accommodations are designed to allow students with disabilities to fully participate in their education without giving them an advantage or disadvantage over their classmates. Faculty will be notified quarterly about students' classroom-based accommodations through the Disability Verification Letter.

Disability Support Services is also available to help faculty understand a student's particular needs or disability (as confidentiality allows). Questions about the appropriateness of an accommodation or to discuss other possible accommodations for a student should be directed to DSS. Faculty should refer to the Faculty Rights and Responsibilities page for more information on their expected involvement.

Also, DSS has many links to resources on working with students with disabilities including:

  • Recommendations for universal design
  • Suggestions for helping students with specific disabilities
  • Resources on working with students with disabilities in specific programs or areas of study
