Thank you for your interest in the Student Academic Mentor program at Seattle Pacific University! The Student Academic Mentor program supports students in targeted 1000 level Common Curriculum classes as they pursue their educational goals. Student academic mentors assist faculty by role modeling interest in course content and learning, offering resources regarding learning strategies, building mentoring relationships with class members and referring students to other campus services as appropriate. In collaboration with the faculty, the Academic Mentor program spearheads the recruitment, selection, training, and supervision of upper-class students as student academic mentors. Whether you are a faculty member, a selected academic mentor, or a prospective academic mentor, we look forward to the possibility of working with you. Sincerely, Mary Jayne Allen, M.S. Ed.
The Student Academic Mentor Program at SPU began in 2003 with grant funding received from the W.M. Keck Foundation. We are grateful to the Keck foundation (www.wmkeck.org) for its imagination as a philanthorpic organization and its interest in funding this innovative program at SPU. As of 2007, the program continues as an initiative supported by SPU's Center for Learning and Office of Academic Affairs. |
