The Rhodes Scholarship for study at Oxford University, Oxford, England is awarded annually to thirty-two highly qualified college seniors distributed across sixteen districts of the United States.
Awards:
A Rhodes Scholarship provides tuition, fees, and a living allowance for a two year (or possibly three year) period.
Selection criteria:
- Literary and scholastic attainments.
- Energy to use one’s talents to the full, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports.
- Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship.
- Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one’s fellow beings.
Eligibility:
- An applicant must be eighteen to twenty-four years of age.
- An applicant must be a citizen of the U.S.
- Applicants must apply in one of fifty states—either their state of residence or the state in which they doing their undergraduate work.
- Applicants must have achieved academic standing sufficient to complete a bachelors degree before October 1 of the year of going into residence at Oxford.

- A campus interview with the Graduate Fellowships Committee is required for institutional endorsement.
- The application requires five letters of recommendation, four must be from faculty.
- These scholarships are extremely competitive, and applications should be initiated well before the deadline. It will take some time to gather supporting documentation and the statement of applicant's interest must be carefully composed. Students should study the Oxford catalogue to design their proposed area of study.
- The Graduate Fellowships Committee will assist students in preparing their application if sufficient time is allowed (at least six weeks prior to the campus deadline).
