Auditioning for the SPU Choirs

Auditions for all choral ensembles are held at the beginning of the school year. These general choral auditions are scheduled the first two days of Autumn Term. An audition sign-up list is posted in the lobby of Crawford Music Building the week before classes begin during New Student Orientation. Interested students can sign up for a time slot at that time.

The Choral Audition consists of:
        1. Completing the "Choral Audition Form" - available at sign-up time (or click form name for printable version).
        2. Vocalizes for range and tone quality.
        3. Exercises for aural, pitch and reading skills.

A student need not prepare a solo song for the audition. There is no "make-it-or-break-it" portion of the audition, rather an audition is a means of gathering information about all interested students for appropriate placement. Assignment into a choir is based on information from the audition process, balance needs and space availability in each ensemble. Assignments are posted within a few days and individual class schedule adjustments are made.

NOTE: It is possible to audition and join a choir at the beginning of the Winter or Spring term, but it may depend on space availability in an ensemble. An audition in this circumstance would be by appointment. Please contact the director of an ensemble for further information.

SMALL ENSEMBLES

CHAMBER SINGERS:   The general choral auditions include consideration for these two groups. Interested students should indicate their interest on the "Choral Audition Form" AND must submit a Small Ensemble Permission form. Please note the co-requisite for these ensembles. A member of Chamber Singers must participate in Concert Choir.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are available to many students for participation in a choral ensemble. Please visit the scholarship audition page for more information.
