Staff Types:

Fair Labor Standards Act Definitions:

Regular Full-time Staff

Regularly scheduled for a minimum of 32 hours per week in a regularly budgeted position.

Regular Part-time Staff

Regularly scheduled for 20 to 31 hours per week in a regularly budgeted position.

Short Hour Staff

Regularly scheduled for fewer than 20 hours per week.

Temporary Staff

Assigned to positions needed to fulfill short-term needs of the University, not more than six months.

Nonexempt Staff

Nonexempt staff are entitled to the protection of the FLSA and the Washington State Minimum Wage Act, including the payment of overtime for hours worked exceeding 40 in one week. This definition is based on job responsibilities and categories defined by the FLSA.

Exempt Staff

Exempt staff are exempt from the overtime and minimum wage provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Washington State Minimum Wage Act. This definition is based on job responsibilities and categories defined by the FLSA.
