From SPU’s University Scholars Program Director: Jeff Keuss

To be a scholar is to pursue truth constantly, wherever it is to be found. That being said, when you pursue truth with honesty and courage, you will often find two things that are not often associated with scholars: humility and community. Seattle Pacific’s University Scholars — or UScholars — program asks gifted, highly motivated students to push themselves and others to find truth across the many disciplines that make up the modern university. I love that about the program. Read more

Inside SPU

A Student Exploring Career Options Help for the Undecided
If your student isn’t sure about what major to choose while registering for Autumn Quarter, encourage him or her to enroll in one of the two-credit courses taught by experts in SPU’s Center for Career and Calling: “Major and Career Exploration” or “Finding Your Vocation.”

In “Major and Career Exploration,” students are guided in identifying their strengths, abilities, and interests. Assignments include career research and networking tasks to develop skills for lifelong career development. In “Finding Your Vocation,” students address important questions about who they are and how they sense God’s call in their lives. They learn and practice methods that will help them make prayerful decisions in everyday life.

Both courses help students know themselves better, and with this knowledge they can pursue learning opportunities that align with their gifts and calling — ultimately leading to purposeful work in the world. Encourage your student to talk to his or her academic advisor to learn more.

Many students consider it a blessing to have had a class with this professor.” Braden has been a faculty member at SPU since 1982.

Now 84 years old, Perkins continues to be one of the leading evangelical voices to come out of the civil rights movement. In this lecture, he spoke to students, faculty, and staff about reconciliation and today’s contemporary Christian identity. Nineteen teams, including a team from Northwest Nazarene University in Boise, Idaho, showed off their social-venture know-how at the event. In addition to more than 50 community judges, more than 400 students, faculty, and staff voted in the People’s Choice balloting. Top winners included Brio Pack, a portable refrigeration unit for vaccination delivery in developing countries, and TK Threads, a proposed cottage industry in Seattle’s Rainier Valley to work with female political refugees and women escaping the sex trade.
