Combining study and travel in a big way, 78 graduate and undergraduate SPU students were studying abroad in 11 foreign countries this summer. Find out where they went — and learn where 98 more students will be headed during the months to come. Read more.

Summer Photos Summer fun and autumn preparations at SPU
Most students left campus in June for their summer break, but Seattle Pacific University stayed busy while they were away! From young Suzuki musicians playing violin in Martin Square to ballerinas en pointe in Tiffany Loop, numerous groups came to campus for conferences, workshops, and annual meetings. Likewise summer campus tours for prospective future Falcons and their families happened throughout the summer. See some of SPU’s favorite summer photos.

Mckinley Hall: Theater 2015–16 theatre season announced
It’s almost time to raise the curtain on the 55th theatre season at Seattle Pacific University! From November’s powerful “Elephant’s Graveyard” to Spring Quarter’s musical “The Spitfire Grill,” this year promises to be another don’t-miss season. Learn more.

SPU Mens Basketball SPU men’s basketball team receives academic accolades
The SPU men’s basketball program received the prestigious Team Academic Excellence Award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the third straight season and five student-athletes garnered individual acclaim. Read more.

Friday, September 11, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Associate Professor of Biblical Studies Sara Koenig will introduce the Center for Biblical and Theological Education’s fall Lectio series on 1 and 2 Samuel at a seminar on Friday, September 11, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. This event includes lunch. Cost: $20. Register now.

Saturday, September 26, 8:30–10 a.m.

New students, faculty, and staff will spend the day in service to a Seattle-area nonprofit organization, learning about the organization’s role in our community — and ways they can continue their involvement throughout the school year. Watch the video.

Enjoy time with your son or daughter — and gain insights into your student’s campus life. Hosted by the Office of Alumni and Parent Relations, Mom’s Day is the perfect reason to visit campus and enjoy a day with your student. Programming includes a meal, guest speaker, and an optional fun Seattle activity. Watch for more information soon.

Homecoming — Alumni and Parents’ Weekend
January 29–30, 2016
Parents, save the date and get ready to join the larger SPU community and connect with your student at a range of events: class visits, tailgate dinner, basketball games, and the student Talent Show. You also won’t want to miss the parents’ breakfast and theatre performances. Rich in school pride and time-honored traditions, this weekend is an opportunity to come together as a community to connect, be inspired, and celebrate. As a Falcon parent, you are invited to one of our biggest campus events of the year!

Alexander Hall Kern Grant awarded to fund new theology program
SPU Provost Jeffrey Van Duzer recently announced that the School of Theology and the Center for Biblical and Theological Education were awarded a $187,000 grant from the Kern Family Foundation. The grant will fund the development of a new certificate program in Christian social entrepreneurship and church innovation. Set to launch in Summer 2016 with a cohort of church and future church leaders, this new initiative will provide training on how to develop and engage faith communities through the work of social ventures.

Roger Feldman Feldman’s work on exhibit
Three works by Professor of Art Roger Feldman are on exhibit in the Bellingham National Art Exhibition and Awards, a juried show featuring artworks in a variety of media. The exhibit is at the Whatcom Lightcatcher Museum of Art in Bellingham and runs through September 6. The exhibit represents artists from 16 states and includes 101 pieces from more than 60 artists. Six hundred artists submitted more than 2,000 artworks.

Tom Box named interim athletic director
This summer, Seattle Pacific Foundation President Tom Box was named interim athletic director. He previously led the SPU Athletic Department from July 1998 through July 2008. A national search will begin later this year. Learn more.
