We're Here to Help

I love this time of year on our campus. The quiet summer months are finally over and SPU students have returned, providing a buzz of excitement and energy. Students are already rolling up their sleeves and jumping right into their studies and activities. I am once again reminded of our students' quality and character.

I've had the privilege of working with SPU parents and students for the last 13 years: 10 years as an enrollment officer and now three years as an advancement officer, so I fully understand the importance of your role as parents in the success of your sons and daughters. They probably wouldn't be at SPU if it weren't for you and the support you give them. We are so grateful that you and your students are a part of the SPU family, and we want to give you opportunities to continue to invest in their academic experience and community.

Here are a few suggestions on how to do that, besides staying informed through this newsletter:

  1. Follow SPU through social media:
  2. Look for each issue of Response, either online, in your mailbox, or both.
  3. Stay connected by attending one or more of our parent and family events such as Mom's Day, Homecoming, Dad's Day, or any of the community events.
  4. Stay supportive. There are so many ways you can directly or indirectly support your students' experiences. Parents who are informed and connected can better understand how to encourage their students. There is a vast array of University resources that can help with questions or concerns.

I pray this year is a fantastic one for your sons and daughters, whether it is their first year or their last at SPU. Please don't hesitate to contact us with your questions or comments at parents@spu.edu, or call the Alumni and Parent Relations Office directly at 206-281-2586.

With warm regards,

Bryan Jones
Director of Alumni and Parent Relations
