Make a Difference, Earn Education Award Money

Students in Service

Students in Service is an AmeriCorps program that provides money for tuition or loans to students engaged in service activities. Students in Service is a program of Washington Campus Compact with funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Practically speaking, Students in Service is a simple way to earn money for education during the time students spend in long-term volunteer roles or internship programs with non-profit organizations including schools, community organizations and most hospitals and clinics.

How It Works

After enrolling in the Students in Service program, students turn in a monthly timesheet Volunteer Servicethat tracks hours spent in Direct Service (work done at the service site) and Member Development (training, coursework, etc. equipping them for their on-site service).

At the end of the student’s term of service, AmeriCorps sends a voucher payable toward academic tuition or loans.

Students in Service members make a difference in their communities, gain valuable civic and workforce skills, and upon completion of their term of service, earn an education award.

By participating in the Students in Service program, the member becomes a part of the AmeriCorps national service network that improves lives and strengthens communities throughout the United States of America.
