SAS Faculty Resources: New Programs
Implementation Timeline
1. Establish Start Term (such as Summer 2008 or Autumn Quarter 2009)
2. Meet with the university registrar, Catalog coordinator, and schedule and publication coordinator ONE YEAR prior to the established starting term (i.e., meet Summer 2009 if a program starts Summer 2010). Determine enrollment goals.
3. Build Catalog: Autumn Quarter one year prior to start term.
4. Build Time Schedule.
If Start Term Is Summer
- October, one year prior to start term: Build Summer Session
- January, one year prior to start term: Build Autumn-Spring Quarters
If Start Term Is Autumn
- January, one year prior to start term: Build Autumn-Spring Quarters
Questions to Ponder When Setting up a New Program
- Who is the target audience?
- What type of program is this (e.g., a certificate only program, a concentration, an undergraduate degree)?
- Do the classes in the program apply to a degree?
- If it is a doctoral program, will students be eligible for a master’s degree along the way?
- Will there be an initial cohort paying a special rate?
- Is financial aid an option?
- Will these classes interfere with the block schedule?
- What is the withdrawal policy?
