Ways To Get Around The Sound

Let us help you plan your commute to and from work. Not only do we offer various subsidies to encourage the use of alternative transportation, but we'll help you customize your route. Complete the CTR Participation form to begin earning your subsidies or contact Garrett McGuire, Parking and Transportation Coordinator at ext.2821 or email gmcguire@spu.edu for assistance.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Online Alternative Transportation Sign-up
If you are a full-time faculty or staff employee, if you use alternative transportation, and if you have not yet registered with Safety & Security, you can now do so online. To access the system log into the Banner Information System and click on the Commuting Registration Menu. Select Alternative Transportation Menu to sign up. This process must be completed each year and updated as information changes.

1213 Employee ORCA Card Available

The 1213 ORCA Card is available for eligible employees to renew and to pick up at Safety and Security.

Low Emitting, Fuel Efficient Vehicle Discount

Faculty and staff who drive low emitting, fuel efficient vehicles are eligible for a 20% parking discount. To qualify, your vehicle must be rated 50 or higher in the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy’s (ACEEE) Green Book. Ratings are awarded based on tailpipe emissions, fuel economy, vehicle mass, and (if hybrid or electric) battery mass and composition. To determine if your vehicle qualifies, please select this included link. If your vehicle qualifies, please contact Garrett McGuire at gmcguire@spu.edu to receive the discount.

SPU Zipcar Program

Zipcar, the car-sharing company which rents cars by the hour is available free to qualifying SPU faculty and staff that regularly use an alternative method of transportation for their commute to work. Regular, full-time employees that routinely bicycle, walk, bus, vanpool or carpool to work can use Zipcar for occasional errands or appointments for free.

Students, age 21 and over, can use Zipcar on a personal account (personal account users are subject to Zipcar's fees and rates. Zipcar has specific eligibility criteria for personal accounts. Learn more by visiting http://www.zipcar.com

 

COMMUTE TRIP REDUCTION INCENTIVES
SPU Employee ORCA Card
Employees are eligible for a SPU ORCA Card. This bus pass is good anywhere Metro, Sound, Community, Everett, Kitsap, and Pierce Transit travel, as well as the Sounder Train and the new Link Light Rail.

RideShare
Carpoolers can receive discounted or free parking on campus. Vanshares and Vanpools are both free through the ORCA Card.  To find Vanshare, Vanpool, and carpooling commuting partners, search http://www.rideshareonline.com/.
 
Bike / Walk
Many University employees live within easy bicycling or walking distance of campus. The University offers free lockers and access to showers at Brougham for those biking or walking at least 3 days per week.

Additional subsidies are available if you combine transit, biking, walking, carpooling or vanpooling with your Ferry ride.
