Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loans for Undergraduate Students

Federal Direct PLUS loans are available for parents to borrow on behalf of a dependent student. A FAFSA must be completed for this loan. Funds are available through the U.S. Department of Education. Approval for a PLUS loan requires a credit check. Repayment begins within 60 days of the last disbursement of the loan. However, the parent may defer repayment while the student on whose behalf the loan was borrowed is enrolled at least half time, and for an additional six months after the student ceases to be enrolled at least half time. Additional information about PLUS loans is available via the Student Financial Services office and here.

Basic facts about this loan can be found on the Employment and Loan Programs chart (PDF). For more detailed information, contact SFS.
