My World: Kristi Tamaki

Pulling an oar through the water — stroke after stroke after stroke — is enough to make a grown man scream. That’s why crew teams have coxswains like Kristi Tamaki, who know what to say to keep the boat moving. This junior nutrition and dietetics major never yells, but often points out what she can see. “We’re bow to stern,” she might say. “Let’s walk it up in two.” Her coxing style comes from participating in grueling fitness tests on rowing machines. “I think about what motivates me,” she says. Hopefully we’ll see the Falcons return to the winner’s podium at Nationals as a result.
