New Dental Cards: Are You Ready to Use Them?

Due to the change in dental plan (from Delta Dental Premier to Delta Dental PPO), new cards were enclosed in your Open Enrollment packet of materials in April 2009. If you cannot locate your card(s), contact the Human Resources office or come by to receive new ones. If you dropped your own dental coverage during Online Open Enrollment, the dental card you received in your packet is not activated and you may discard it. Remember, if you see a Premier dentist rather than a PPO dentist, you should be prepared to pay $50 individual deductible ($150 family) for any Class II or Class III services performed. If you see a PPO dentist, you do not have to pay a deductible on these services.

Medical Deductibles: How to Avoid Them

As you know, both our medical PPO plans, Option 1 and Option 2, now have deductibles for in-network and out-of network usage. But did you know that not all of your medical care requires first meeting a deductible? Example 1: Your preventive care office visits, when performed in-network, will not require a deductible, copayment, or co-insurance. Walk in and out without touching your wallet! Preventive office visits are routine physicals/well-person exams and well-baby visits. Be clear at the time of scheduling and registration at your doctor's that this is a preventive care visit. This informs the provider's staff that different billing codes apply for such an appointment. Example 2: Your in-network office visits are also not subject to deductibles. Your standard copayment and co-insurance will, however, apply. Use these tips to get the most out of your health plan. Refer to the summary highlights for your medical plan option (Option 1 or Option 2) to see which services require you to first meet your deductible. More

Pet Photo of the Week

“I wanted to share with you a picture of my newest ‘grandson,' Brutus! Brutus is a 7-week-old pug who belongs to our daughter, Jessica, and her husband, David. Brutus was a graduation gift David received from his parents to commemorate the completion of his college degree Winter Quarter. Brutus joins BIG brother, Jack, a 20-pound cat who hasn't quite decided what he thinks of the new addition to his family! Jack is still pretty wary even though he outweighs Brutus by about 18 pounds! Matt and I are enjoying getting acquainted with our ‘grand-pug,' but are looking forward to eventually having grandchildren who don't have four paws and a tail!" Melanie Whitehead, coordinator of campus planning and development in Facility Management. Select the link for another photo of Brutus. More
