|Spring Quarter Grades Due June 21|
Spring Quarter grades are due in Student Academic Services (SAS) by 4:30 p.m., Monday, June 21. Grades may be submitted to SAS via the Web; in person; placed in the SAS drop box (located outside of Demaray Hall 151); mailed; or faxed to (206) 281-2669 (with the original mailed or submitted as soon as possible). If you have any questions concerning grading or meeting the University deadline, contact Kelli Knapp at (206) 281-2636. Timely submission of grades helps students and offices with important processes, such as the academic dismissal process, disbursing financial aid and processing enrollment verifications.
|Audio and Video of SPU's Community Breakfast With David Brooks Now Available|
If you missed SPU's 2004 Greater Seattle Community Breakfast, you can now hear and see the speakers via the SPU home page. Audio and video files of the remarks by SPU President Philip Eaton, School of Business and Economics Dean Jeff Van Duzer, and keynote speaker and New York Times columnist David Brooks are available on the President's Web page, www.spu.edu/info/pres.html, under the “President's Addresses" section. |SPU Living Well Initiative June 17|
The SPU Living Well Initiative will sponsor its first conference titled “Meeting the Mental Health Needs of College-Aged Youth and their Families" on Thursday, June 17, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Library Seminar Room. The keynote speaker for the morning will be Dr. Karen Schepp from the University of Washington. The program will also feature a panel presentation focused on community based services for youth and their families. Started in 2002, the SPU Living Well Initiative is a multidisciplinary educational program addressing the needs of persons and families affected by severe and persistent mental health conditions. The program is co-sponsored by the School of Health Sciences and the School of Psychology, Family and Community. For additional information, visit the Web site.
|“Service-Learning and Civic Engagement" Conference|
Washington Campus Compact (WACC), a coalition of college and university presidents, is sponsoring two professional development programs this summer. “Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Institute" will be held July 28-29, and “Self-Reflection and Renewal Activity" will be held July 29-30. Both will be at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Retreat in Leavenworth, Washington. The Institute will feature two tracks; “Service-Learning and Civic Engagement Dialogues and Workshops" for intermediate to advanced practitioners and facilitated by nationally recognized expert Nadinne Cruz, and “Introduction to Service-Learning and Sustainable Partnerships," facilitated by Erin Swezey (WACC) and Rachel Vaughn (Community Campus Partnerships for Health). Both tracks are designed for faculty, staff, administrators and community partners. The “Self-Reflection and Renewal Activity" is a one-and-a-half day program, also facilitated by Nadinne Cruz, designed to provide a relaxing, professionally facilitated environment to support participants in reflecting on their previous year's work and engaging in professional and personal renewal. |Staff Forum on Wednesday, June 16|
The next SPU Staff Forum is Wednesday, June 16, from 9-10:30 a.m. in Upper Gwinn Commons. Doug Thorpe, associate professor of English and spiritual director in the Episcopal Diocese of Olympia, will speak on the topic “Labour Well the Minute Particulars: Joy, Attention and the Art of Spiritual Direction." He will explore some of the struggles we have with work – finding time for what matters and finding the spirit in the midst of the matters of our daily labors. He will also look at ways our work invites such attention and ways that it doesn't. Beverages and pastries will be provided.

Beginning June 21, the Fac/Staff Bulletin will be published every other week
until late September. Be sure to send your announcements and news as early as
possible to the Bulletin editor (Tracy C. Norlen) at email@example.com, or submit an item directly from the Bulletin. (Look for the “Submit Bulletin Items" in the upper right-hand corner.) Deadlines are Thursdays at noon preceding publication.

|Sink's Articles on Spirituality and School Counseling Published|
The School of Education is pleased to announce that Chris Sink, professor of
school counseling and psychology, recently co-authored a special issue of
the Professional School Counseling journal on the theme of spirituality and school counseling. Professional School Counseling is the premiere, refereed journal of the American School Counselor Association. In addition to co-editing this special issue, Chris co-authored the overview article and authored one of the major articles. This is the first time the American School Counselor Association has addressed the issue of spirituality openly. Chris' articles are titled "Introducing Spirituality to Professional School Counseling" and "Spirituality and Comprehensive School Counseling Programs."

|SPU Alumna Featured in Seattle P-I|
Enying Zhou '43, known as Lora Jones while attending SPU, was featured in the Seattle P-I on June 14. Enying was a Chinese orphan adopted by a Free Methodist missionary. She was educated in the United States but returned to China as a missionary. She was then imprisoned by the Chinese government for 20 years. After her release from prison, she continued to teach in China. Enying received an honorary doctorate during SPU's Commencement exercises on June 12. In awarding her the degree, SPU President Philip Eaton said, “God bless you, Lora, for your steadfastness in the face of adversity. You clearly exemplify the values of Seattle Pacific for so tirelessly and thoughtfully bringing the Christian faith into a hostile culture." Read more online.
