Office of University Communications Closed Aug. 7-9

The Office of University Communications will be closed for an in-house retreat for organization and planning, August 7-9. Although the office will be closed, the UC staff will be on site and available in emergencies. In the case of an emergency, call Office Manager Julia Weir at 206-281-2051, and she will connect you with the appropriate staff member. MILESTONES

Jones, Nelson Complete STP

SPU staff members Bryan Jones, assistant director of admissions, and Kristi Nelson, admissions counselor, participated in the annual Seattle-to-Portland (STP) bicycle ride, July 15-16. The 202-mile ride is the largest multiday bicycle event in the Northwest, with up to 9,000 participants riding from Seattle to Portland in one or two days. The route goes through scenic valleys, forests, and farmlands of Western Washington and Oregon. Congratulations, Bryan and Kristi!

Husby, Woodward Compete in Rainier to Pacific Relay

Marathoner and Administrative Assistant for the Controller Kari Husby, and self-avowed “duffer" and Professor of History Bill Woodward were part of an 11-member team (including four SPU alumni) that ran the 2006 Rainier to Pacific Relay Championships, July 21-22 (yes, in the 100-degree heat). The team completed the 150-mile course to Ocean Shores in 18 hours, 22 minutes (just over a 7-minute/mile pace). That effort, deployed against about 70 other teams, was good for first place in their division and third place overall. Congratulations!
