|Thanksgiving Chapel on Tuesday|
SPU's Thanksgiving Communion Service is Tuesday, November 21, at 9:30 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. The theme for the service is “Sharing Our Stories of Thanks." A special offering will be taken for the SPU Benevolent Fund, which helps local youth organizations and students with unanticipated financial needs. Campus offices and departments will be closed 9:30–10:30 a.m.

|Do You Know Students Interested in Computer Science?|
If you know students considering a career in computer science, tell them about a computer science information evening on Tuesday, November 28, at 6:30 p.m. in Otto Miller Hall. "Future Potential in Computer Science" will offer information on career choices, classes to take, internships and project opportunities, industry networking, and more. |Let Us Know About Your Campus Events for Next Year|
Twice a year, the Office of University Communications publishes a community events brochure titled “Engage," highlighting a sampling of campus events of interest to the public. Previous brochures have invited neighbors to guest lectures, symposia, concerts, athletic events, gallery showings, theatre productions, etc. This brochure is sent to more than 45,000 alumni, friends, and Seattle neighbors. We are now collecting event information for events happening during Winter and Spring quarters. If you are planning an event of interest to the public, please forward the information to Tracy Norlen in University Communications at email@example.com. |Get in Shape for the Holidays!|
Senior exercise science majors are available on a limited basis to meet with faculty and staff to review or plan physical activity and fitness goals. Services range from simple instruction on an exercise or physical fitness program to a complete fitness assessment and personal training. These students can also help find ways to include health-enhancing physical activity into the accomplishment of daily tasks. If you would like to receive this free service and help students earn practicum credit, call the Physical Education Office at 206-281-2081 and tell the receptionist what kind of service you desire. A record of your request will be made, and a student should contact you within a week or so to set up an appointment. |Sacred Sounds of Christmas CD Available|
“The Sacred Sounds of Christmas" CD, featuring SPU's acclaimed choral and instrumental ensembles, is now available on campus. The CD offers an eclectic collection of readings and traditional and lesser-known Advent and Christmas music spanning several centuries. Proceeds benefit SPU performing groups. CDs can be purchased for $15 (includes tax) from Performing Groups Coordinator Kyle Feldman in University Communications in Lower Weter Hall. Cash or checks are preferred. CDs can also be purchased in the SPU Bookstore or through the Web site ($2.95 shipping charges apply).

“Meet Paisley, our 4-year-old, 90-pound golden retriever! Paisley loves to bark at cats and squirrels, steal napkins from dinner guests' laps under the table, help me ‘cook' in the kitchen, and sneak off with an occasional shoe in her mouth (usually mine). On Seahawks game days, my husband calls her the ‘golden receiver' because she has her own football toy and loves to play fetch while he watches the game." |Kresser's Article Published|
Associate professor of art and art historian Katie Kresser had an article titled "Power and Glory: Brahmin Identity and the Shaw Memorial" published in the fall issue of the journal American Art: Smithsonian American Art Museum. The journal is published by the University of Chicago Press.
|Braden's Article Published|
Professor of Geography Kathleen Braden's article titled "The Enigma of Ecotourism Development in the Altay Region of Russia" was accepted for publication in the refereed journal Tourism Geographies. Her co-author is Natalya Prudnikova in the Department of Geography, Altai State University in Barnaul, Russia.
|Gallagher Presents at Conference|
Susan Gallagher, professor of English and director of the Center for Scholarship and Faculty Development, recently presented a session on "Designing a Faculty Mentoring Program" at the 31st annual Professional and Organizational Developers Network Conference in Portland, Oregon, October 27. She also gave a paper titled "Imagining Jesus: Theology, Novels, and the Scriptural Imagination" at the Lilly Fellows Program National Research Conference. The conference, titled "The World and Christian Imagination," was held at Baylor University on November 11.

Beth Miller, instructor of interior design in Family and Consumer Sciences, and Sharleen Kato, professor of Family and Consumer Sciences, had an article titled "Greening Our Future: Health and Global Motivators for Teaching Environmentally Responsible Interior Design" published in the November 2006 issue of the Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences.
