|Undergraduate Academic Counseling Advising Loads for Winter 2011|
The undergraduate academic counselors in Student Academic Services will serve substantially larger student populations during Winter Quarter due to Kristen Labrecque being on maternity leave and the departure of Ben Weins to an academic advising position in his home state of South Dakota. |Undergraduate Academic Counselors Accepting Drop-In Appointments|
The undergraduate academic counselors in Student Academic Services will be available to meet with students on a first-come, first-served basis during the first week of Winter Quarter. These brief meetings are intended for students who have Winter 2011 scheduling and registration issues, or who are on academic probation. Students should have already met with their faculty advisor, as these meetings do not result in the removal of the faculty-advisor hold. Students may check in with an academic counselor, located at the check-in table in the lobby directly outside of Demaray Hall 150. Drop-in hours are as follows:
• Tuesday, January 4: 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.
• Wednesday, January 5: 9 a.m.-4.p.m.
• Thursday, January 6: 9:30 a.m.-4.p.m.
• Friday, January 7: 9 a.m.-4.p.m.
• Monday, January 10: 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
|Palmer Lecture Series With Dr. J. Kameron Carter|
The 2011 Palmer Lecture Series sponsored by the School of Theology will be Thursday, January 27. Dr. J. Kameron Carter, associate professor in theology and black church studies at Duke Divinity School, will be the guest lecturer. Dr. Carter will address issues of race, theology, and the church as he discusses "Post-Racial Religion: Or, The Question of the Neighbor in the 21st Century." The SPU campus is invited and encouraged to attend two events on January 27; the Palmer Chapel at 9:30 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church, and the Palmer Lecture at 7 p.m. in Upper Gwinn. |New Year's Resolution: Start Circuit Training|
Circuit training will recommence on Monday, January 3, at 12:30 p.m. in the Upper Gym in Brougham Pavilion. The instructor is Assistant Professor of Physical Education and Exercise Science Dale Cannavan. All faculty and staff are welcome.
|Theatre Tickets Make Great Christmas Gifts!|
SPU's Theatre Department will present the musical “Godspell," January 20-22, and 27-29. Theatre tickets are a great idea for Christmas stocking stuffers. The peer advisor selection process for 2010–11 is coming up fast, and we need your help in obtaining nominations for qualified candidates. Our campus is blessed with many students who have exceptional academic, spiritual, and leadership gifts. |Ediger, Woodward Give Presentations|
Braving Snoqualmie Pass in a blizzard on December 1, Professor of History Bill Woodward and Associate Professor of Political Science Ruth Ediger delivered back-to-back presentations respectively titled “Constitution/Early America" and “Writing the Constitution." The presentations were made for 35 fifth grade teachers participating in the Federal Teaching American History Grant titled “To Preserve and Protect Our Future." After it was over, grant director Tom Christian declared, “The teachers are abuzz about it being the most magnificent demonstration of high quality information, thought, organization, and professionalism they have witnessed."
|Web Team Launches New Website|
The University Communications Web Team successfully launched the first phase of the new SPU website. The team worked with local design agency POP to create the new website. The Web Team consists of Lorri Sheffer, web communications manager; Eric Crissman, senior web designer; Jacob Lane, web developer; Hope McPherson, web editor; Allie Fraley, web content editor; and Melissa McCauley, web designer I.
