|Marston Lecture with Owen Ewald|
“Augustine's Journey" is the title of this year's C. May Marston lecture with Owen Ewald, the C. May Marston assistant professor of classics. Owen will discuss Augustine of Hippo's spiritual journey in the Confessions, and how urban spaces typical of the later Roman Empire function as personal and theological milestones along the way. The lecture is Tuesday, February 15, at 2 p.m. in Demaray Hall 150. More
|Chapel: “Extending Torah for the Instruction of the Church," Matthew 17:14-20:34|
Richard Dahlstrom, senior pastor at Bethany Community Church, is the guest speaker in chapel on Tuesday, February 15, at 9:30 a.m. in First Free Methodist Church. “After reinforcing the importance of a community of faith, Jesus offers instruction on the life and work of this community. He expands upon the understanding of Torah and calls for a community of further humility, generosity, and forgiveness. For Jesus, Torah is not a set of rules but continually reshaping guidance for living into the kingdom of heaven."

Counseling Center is sponsoring several events around campus to explore our ideas
of beauty and ourselves.
Tuesday, February 22, “Film and Psychology" Screening: Little Miss Sunshine.
Looking at the movie with a new lens; Demaray Hall 150, 7-10 p.m.
Wednesday, February 23, “Beauty Image: How Media Influences Body Image." A photography editing demonstration and panel discussion featuring: Joshua Longbrake, photographer; Jennifer McKinney, associate professor of sociology and director of Women's Studies; and Caleb Mitchell, eating disorders therapist. |SAVE THE DATE: Embracing the (W)hole Gospel|
The Center for Biblical and Theological Education is pleased to announce an upcoming conference, “Embracing the (W)hole Gospel," based on Richard Stearn's book, The Hole in Our Gospel. On Tuesday, May 10, Richard Stearns, president of World Vision United States, and Steve Haas, chief catalyst for World Vision, will be on campus to discuss themes revolving around the cause of social justice. Details are forthcoming, but we encourage you to spread the word across campus, particularly as you interact with students. |What About Registration Issues Faculty Advisors Cannot Address?|
The undergraduate academic counselors in Student Academic Services will be available for brief meetings with students who have already met with their faculty advisors but have issues related to Spring Quarter registration that cannot be resolved by faculty advising. Students who have not met with their faculty advisors (and those with questions normally addressed by faculty) will be referred to faculty. Students who need assistance may check in with an academic counselor in the lobby directly outside Demaray Hall 150 during the week of February 14-18, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

Percussion and Flute Ensemble Concert
The SPU Percussion and Flute Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 15, in the E.E. Bach Theater inside SPU's McKinley Hall. The event is free and wheelchair accessible.
Wind Symphony Concert
SPU's Wind Symphony will perform at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, in the First Free Methodist Church. The repertoire includes "Academic Festival Overture" by Brahms, "Slavonic Dances No. 7 & 8" by Dvorak, and "Four Scottish Dances" by Malcom Arnold. This event is free and open to the public.
|Full-Tuition Scholarship Competition February 18|
On Friday, February 18, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions will host their annual “Full Tuition Scholarship Competition" for newly admitted high school students. The best and brightest applicants from around the globe will have the opportunity to interact with staff, faculty, and current students while also competing for the scholarship award. Parents and family members are invited to join us as well. A special note of thanks to the faculty, staff, and students who have dedicated their time and energy into helping make our events a success.
|Spring Quarter Registration|
All continuing students have been assigned an appointment time, and have been notified via email. Students not admitted to a major will be seeking to meet with their faculty advisor prior to their appointment time. Spring registration for currently admitted undergraduate students began Monday, February 14. Spring registration for graduate students begins Monday, March 7. John and Art are faculty members in the School of Education. Laurynn is a principal in the Lake Washington School District who earned her doctorate at SPU. The article is available online. More

|Ferreiro Guest Speaker at Local Parish|
Professor of European History Alberto Ferreiro was the guest speaker for three Sundays in January at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, where he spoke to adults participating in the “Rite for Christian Initiation." He spoke on images of God in Scripture and art, apostolic origins of the Catholic Church, and the Catholic Church in America.
