Changes coming for Mom’s Day and Dad’s Day

You spoke, we listened! For a decade, Mom’s Day and Dad’s Day have been some of our most popular events, always packed with fun and families. But when we recently surveyed attendees, many said they would prefer a single event for families.

So this year we will celebrate moms, dads, and other family members at Homecoming and Family Weekend on February 2–3, 2018, with special programming just for them.

To make bringing the whole family to campus easy and cost effective, we are continuing last year’s All Access Pass option. Here is just some of what you can expect:

  • The all new Falcon Family Brunch
  • Campus tours and academic program sessions
  • Student Talent Show
  • Jane Eyre: The Musical
  • Homecoming Music Showcase
  • Parent sessions with Student Financial Services, the Center for Career and Calling, and Student Life
  • The Homecoming basketball game!

We’re busy adding more family fun (and even a few learning opportunities) to the schedule so mark your calendars now and stay tuned for more details.

125,000 hours of service: The final tally

Seattle Pacific set an audacious goal during our 125th anniversary celebration year to accumulate a combined 125,000 service hours by students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. Did we do it?

Yes! By June 2017, more than 1,300 SPU community members tallied in excess of 228,000 service hours.

Read the brief accounts sent in by those who served, who planted trees, worked with teens, served in food banks, and more. Find out where in the world SPU community members were engaging the culture by serving others.

#spubound and #falconspirit

Our summer-long #spubound photo contest continues! Visit spu.edu/photocontest to vote for which student photographer you think should win a $50 Amazon gift card at Orientation.

Plus, there’s still time for students to enter their photos on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter for a chance to win a gift card in future rounds.

This contest is a way for incoming SPU students to meet their future classmates, share about their lives, and enter for a chance to win one of the seven Amazon gift cards we give away at Orientation in September.

Upcoming SPU Fridays

Do you know a high school student interested in learning more about SPU? At an upcoming SPU Friday, a high schooler can visit a class, meet professors, learn about admissions and financial aid, and more.

These comprehensive preview experiences will be held October 6 and 20, January 12, April 27, and May 11. Learn more at Undergraduate Admissions.

Faculty spotlight

After receiving a series of grants, Bradley Murg, assistant professor of political science and director of SPU’s Global Development Studies program helped established a new nongovernmental organization “the Greater Mekong Research Center.”

This center is already becoming a leading voice in Cambodian media and academic and policy circles on questions of democratization, human rights protection, and economic development. In May 2017, students named Murg the 2017 Professor of the Year.

Visit the research center at mekongresearch.org.
