State of Washington Eligibility Requirements

Washington state eligibility requirements vary for the State Need Grant, the State Work Study Grant, and the College Bound Scholarship (all of which are available only to undergraduates).

State Need Grant

Students are eligible for a State Need Grant with a minimum of three credits of enrollment, and they must complete at least half (50 percent) of the minimum number of credits for which the State Need Grant was calculated and disbursed.

You will be placed on probation if you complete more than half but less than all the credits for which the aid was calculated and disbursed. During probation, you must complete all the credits attempted or you will not be able to receive your State Need Grant for the next quarter. If you complete less than half the minimum number of credits for which the State Need Grant was calculated and disbursed, you will not be able to receive your State Need Grant for next quarter.

State Work Study

To remain eligible for State Work Study, you must complete at least half (50 percent) of the minimum number of credits for which the State Work Study was calculated and disbursed.

You will be placed on probation if you complete more than half but less than all the credits for which the State Work Study was calculated and disbursed. During probation you must complete all the credits attempted or you will not be able to receive your State Work Study for the next quarter. If you complete less than half the minimum number of credits for which the State Work Study was calculated and disbursed, you will not be able to receive your State Work Study for next quarter.

The College Bound Scholarship

To be eligible, 7th- and 8th-grade students whose families qualify as low-income sign a pledge by June 30 of their 8th-grade year. Students promise to graduate from high school, demonstrate good citizenship, and seek admission to a college or university. Family income and college admission status will be re-checked or confirmed after the student graduates from high school.

To remain eligible for the College Bound Scholarship, you must complete at least six credits each quarter. If you do not complete six credits, you will not be eligible to receive the grant for the following quarter. Additionally, if you do not complete the minimum credits required for your enrollment status (i.e., 12 credits for full-time, nine credits for three-quarters time, or six credits for half-time), you will be placed on probation for one quarter. During probation, you must complete the minimum number of credits you attempt for your enrollment status or you will not be eligible to receive College Bound funding the following quarter.
