*The Master of Fine Arts program will perform their hooding ceremony in Santa Fe, NM.

If you are graduating with a master’s degree, you are invited to participate in your school or program's Graduate Hooding ceremony. During the hooding ceremony, your program director and/or dean will hood you.

If you are a doctoral student, you are also invited to attend the hooding ceremony, but you will be formally hooded at the Graduate Commencement ceremony at 2 p.m. that afternoon.

You should arrive at your hooding ceremony dressed in regalia and with your hood in your possession (unless your school has communicated otherwise). Please note when you register online for graduation whether you will participate in your hooding ceremony.

The processional to the Graduate Commencement ceremony in Tiffany Loop will start from your hooding ceremony location. Even if you do not attend your hooding ceremony, you must still check in at that location by 1 p.m., in order to line up for the Graduate Commencement processional. Families and guests will have adequate time to both attend the hooding and then find a viewing location in Tiffany Loop for the Graduate Commencement ceremony.

Arriving, Lining Up, and Marching

Please arrive at your hooding ceremony location (even if you don't plan to participate in the hooding ceremony) by 1:00 p.m. sharp on Friday, June 8. The time is needed for student check-in and processional line-up. Your program coordinator will give you a card with your name. You will hand your card to the reading marshal, who will announce your name as you cross the platform and receive your diploma cover. Participating graduates must wear regalia.

The processional will begin at 2:00 p.m. The platform party and faculty march first, doctoral degree candidates are next, followed by master’s degree candidates. After all degrees have been conferred, graduates will not recess, but should remain standing until the platform party and faculty have exited the platform and the aisle. Out of respect for your fellow students, please do not leave Tiffany Loop until all degrees have been conferred and the ceremony has concluded.

Note: This is an outdoor ceremony. If rain is in the forecast, please plan accordingly. See rain plan for more details.

No tickets are required for this ceremony, but seating in Tiffany Loop may be limited. If you have family or guests with disabilities or who have limited mobility, please make seating arrangements by calling the Office of the Provost at 206-281-2125 or emailing graduationinfo@spu.edu.
