Donald W. Mortenson is the senior vice president for planning and administration at Seattle Pacific University. In this role, he works with the president to manage and advance the strategic planning process, and provides oversight for the University’s institutional policies.

Meet Don Mortenson
Donald Mortenson has played key leadership roles at Seattle Pacific University since 1980, serving as a vice president since 1985. In April 2013, he was named by President Dan Martin to lead the administrative unit, the Office of Planning and Administration.
Mr. Mortenson oversees governmental compliance in multiple areas of the institution. He also assists the president in managing and advancing SPU’s strategic planning process, and provides oversight for assessing congruence and relevance in SPU’s institutional policies. He guides updates of the University emergency and crisis management plan, oversees the departments of Human Resources and Safety and Security, and assists the president in supporting the Board of Trustees and the University Advisory Council. He also serves as the lead on government and legislative affairs, and conducts special project and report analysis.
In 1991, Mr. Mortenson became the president of the Seattle Pacific Foundation, and is currently vice chair. The Foundation provides professional management for the University’s endowment.
Mr. Mortenson received a bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific in 1971, followed by an MBA in 1988; he has been a Washington state CPA since 1973.
