Students Compete in International Math Competition

SPU students recently competed in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling, an international event for college undergraduates. The contest challenges teams to clarify, analyze, and propose solutions to open-ended problems, and attracts diverse students and faculty advisors from more than 900 institutions around the world.

Anna Nygren, Kirsten Knutson, and Jonathan Van Schenck were named “Meritorious Winner,” an award given by the judges to the top ten percent of more than 7,000 international teams that entered. Ashley Sonan, Leah Wurst, and Tiffany Chen received “Honorable Mention,” and Brittany Dygert, Dean David, and Salvador Eng Deng were named “Successful Participant.” Their faculty advisor was SPU Associate Professor of Mathematics Wai Wah Lau. Congratulations!
