We are very pleased to present Dr. Michael Naughton (University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN) as the keynote speaker for the 2014 Business as a Calling Day. Dr. Naughton is an expert on Catholic Social Thought and the author and editor of several books and articles, including Bringing Your Business to Life, Managing as if Faith Mattered, Rediscovering Abundance, and Rethinking the Purpose of Business.
Professor Naughton has a joint appointment in the University of St. Thomas' Departments of Ethics & Business Law and Catholic Studies. He earned a Ph.D. in Theology and Society from Marquette University, and a M.B.A. from the University of St. Thomas.
Dr. Naughton directs the John A. Ryan Institute for Catholic Social Thought, and holds the Alan W. Moss Endowed Chair in Catholic Social Thought at the University of St. Thomas. He serves on several corporate boards and has brought together an international community of scholars and practitioners to engage practical and theoretical questions about theology and business. He has also spearheaded collaborations on topics such as A Theology of Institutions and Seeing Things as a Whole.
While in Seattle, Dr. Naughton will also interact with SPU scholars and Seattle business leaders as the CIB's 2014 Bruce R. Kennedy Ethical Leadership Visiting Scholar. Bruce Kennedy was former CEO of Alaska Airlines, and the Visiting Scholar fund was established to honor his extraordinary legacy as an ethical business leader.
