At a ceremony held virtually on Saturday, June 13, 2020, the SPU Honors Program recognized 18 graduating Honors Scholars, including two Biology majors. Erinn Campbell (BS Ecology and BA Self-Designed major) wrote her Honors thesis on “'The Speechmaking of a Girl-Orator': Reason, Gender, and Authority in Dorothy Hunter’s Free Trade Oratory", under the supervision of Assistent Professor of History Rebecca Hughes. Elli Fox (BS Cellular and Molecular Biology) wrote her Honors thesis on "Determining the Genetic Control of Neural Tube Malformation Through Genetic Interactions with IDGF3", under the supervision of former SPU Biology department faculty Dr. Michelle Casad. In addition to Erinn and Elli, two other Honors Scholars were supervised by Biology department faculty. Kyra Bower (BS Biochemistry), wrote her Honors thesis on "Raccoon roundworm (Baylisascaris procyonis) infection prevalence in geographically distinct raccoon (Procyon lotor) populations of the Pacific Northwest", under the supervision of Assistant Professor of Biology Cindy Bishop (with Professor of Biology Eric Long serving as the second reader). Meg Lunn (BS Biochemistry), wrote her Honors thesis on "The kinetic signatures of antibody binding to M. genitalium adhesin protein fragments", under the supervision of Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry Ben McFarland (with Associate Professor of Biology Jenny Tenlen serving as the second reader).
Erinn Campbell received the Wesley Lingren Award, the highest honor bestowed on a graduating Honors Scholar. Erinn was recognized for her outstanding research in both the sciences and humanities, and her leadership in the SPU Honors Program. Congratulations to Erinn, and to all of our Honors Scholars!
