As an interdisciplinary aesthetic movement encompassing philosophy, dance, architecture, visual art, poetry, fiction, and drama, modernism was a transatlantic phenomenon.
This course examines some of the major authors and literary works of the early twentieth-century modernist period, including T.S. Eliot, H.D.,Virginia Woolf and James Joyce.
How do these authors respond to the challenges of modern period? With hope or despair? What new literary strategies did they employ to wrestle with the century’s new problems?
