Steinke in Vietnam, IT Governance
Last November, Professor of Management and Information Systems Gerhard Steinke gave the keynote presentation at the National Symposium of Selected ICT Problems. His presentation was titled “IT Governance and Management Perspectives for the Future.” He gave the presentation at Dai Hoc Duy Tan University in Danang, Vietnam.

Rand to Train Boeing Engineers
Executive-in-Residence Jim Rand received a grant from the Ed Wells Foundation to train 35 senior Boeing supply chain engineers during the month of December. His responsibilities included assisting them in designing their negotiation strategies for the supply chain management for the Boeing 777X and 787, and the Tanker project. Upon completion of their training and design of their strategic negotiation initiatives, they will be prepared to take the certified professional negotiator (CPN) exam. This exam is offered to senior negotiators with 10 or more years of experience in negotiations and is provided through the Strategic Learning Alliance.

Baker Writes Business Parables
The Center for Integrity in Business is publishing a new online weekly devotional under the title “Business Parables,” written by Assistant Professor of Business Ethics Bruce Baker. The devotional delivers fresh content every Wednesday in the form of a one-page reflection on Scripture in the style of Oswald Chambers’ classic devotional My Utmost for His Highest.

Williams Appointed Editor
Joseph Williams, dean of the School of Business, Government, and Economics, was recently appointed editor of the “Living in a C-Suite” section of IT Professional magazine. The magazine offers solid, peer-reviewed information about today’s strategic technology issues.

Schlee on Student Use of Social Marketing
An article by Professor of Marketing Regina Schlee and Katrin Harich was published in Marketing Education Review, Volume 23, Number 3/Fall 2013, pages 209–24. The article is titled “Teaching Students How to Integrate and Assess Social Networking Tools in Marketing Communications.”

Williams on Sustainable Enterprise
A conference paper by Dean Joseph Williams was recently published in Fifth Annual Canadian Quality Congress. The paper, “Sustainable Enterprise Excellence: Innovation Enabled Organizational Resilience, Robustness & Resplendence,” was co-written by Rick Edgeman and Jacob Kjaer Eskildsen.

Erisman Joins Theology of Work Project
Executive-in-Residence Al Erisman was elected vice chairman and treasurer of the board, and co-chairman of the steering committee, for the Theology of Work Project. In January 2014, the Theology of Work Project completed the approval of the final documents for its commentary on the Bible and what it has to say about the daily work of Christians. At the steering committee meeting in Boston on January 30, the group selected a board of directors for phase 2 of the project, along with co-chairmen of the steering committee.

Mason on Classroom Structure, Learning
Assistant Professor of Economics Geri Mason recently presented a paper titled “Active, Blended, or Traditional? The Effect of Classroom Structure on Learning Outcomes in Principles of Economics Courses” at the 25th annual Teaching Economics conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Lee, Kim on Minority Student Attitudes
An article by faculty members Don Lee and Paul Kim was recently published in the journal Cultural Diversity and Ethnic Minority Psychology. The research article is titled “Internalized Model Minority Myth, Asian Values, and Help-Seeking Attitudes Among Asian American Students.” Don is assistant professor of strategy in the School of Business, Government, and Economics, and Paul is assistant professor of psychology.

Schlee on Teaching Creativity
Regina Schlee, professor of marketing, was lead author on a recently published article in Taylor & Francis Online. The article is titled “Teaching Creativity to Business Students: How Well Are We Doing?”

Daniels on Impression Management
Professor of Management Denise Daniels and co-authors Mark Bolino and Anthony Klotz had their article titled “The Impact of Impression Management Over Time” published in the Journal of Managerial Psychology, Volume. 29(3). Another article by Daniels about the glass ceiling appeared in the Sociology of Work handbook, published by Sage Publications, Inc.

Kierulff on Valuation
An article by Donald Snellman Professor of Entrepreneurship and Finance Herbert Kierulff titled “Net Present Value: Six Ways to Improve Precision” was published at the Society of Business Research Conference (ed. Michael Phillips, 2014:13).

Williams on Health Care IT
An article by Dean Joseph Williams was recently published in IT Professional, a bimonthly publication of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Computer Society for developers and managers of enterprise information systems. The article, “Hands-On CIO Tackles Health Care IT,” features an interview with SPU 2012 alumnus Jason Wood.

Karns Receives Service Award
Gary Karns, professor of marketing, and Charles Duke, his collaborator from Clemson University, received the 2014 Marketing Educators Association Service Award in recognition of their offering a teaching effectiveness seminar for many years to new entrants to the field.

Eveland and Karns on Marketing
Professors of Marketing Vicki Eveland and Gary Karns presented “Marketing on the Island: An Attempt at Social and Academic Integration in a Principles of Marketing Class,” at the 2014 Marketing Educators’ Association Conference, in San Jose.
